I ogle way too many inspiration boards in a given day. I’ve been waiting a very long time to create one, and my little sister getting married seemed as good a reason as any. I am official stationer to the betrothed; maid matron (I. Feel. Old.) of honour, and chief advisor to the bride-to-be, which, altogether, means I need to throw a kick ass bridal shower.
Bridal showers are not known for being ass-kicking affairs. Most women I know groan at the thought of having a Sunday afternoon stolen to coo over tea towels, and pensively consider the subtle textural differences between baking powder and soda for the chance to win a sucky prize. I am one of those women.
No matter: all I need to think about is my sister floating about the room, glowing and giddy, surrounded by friends and family, as inspiration to host a shower she’ll remember fondly. Plus, it’s a pretty fantastic excuse to ride out this heat wave in air conditioning and get my craft on without a stitch of guilt.
The wedding will be a country affair, in a working sugar bush no less, with rustic charm and DIY details by the (sap) bucketful. I’m doing it on bridal shower-worthy scale, in ketchup and mustard hues. Red, for love, and because it’s her favourite colour. And yellow, for sunshine and summer days.
